Under the Hood

Good Product, reliable
I bought this refurbished item just over a year ago, and it is still working perfectly. I have since begun to use it more and more, and it has not given me any problems or issues whatsoever. I would reccomend the refurbished product to anyone trying to get into an xbox and not needing more than a 20g harddrive. If you feel that you would need more storage space, the amount of memory would be the only thing holding someone back from being on this system 24/7. The item came with everything listed, reliable purchase, I'm very glad with my purchase.

A checklist that should tell you exactly why you want this.

-This is a Microsoft refurbished console. That means it will be in 360 packaging with resealed cords, controllers, and headset (I'm tempted to say that my headset was brand new, and maybe even my cords, but I don't want to claim that without knowing. Regardless. There is something nice about not opening a clamshell sealed 360 that smells like lung cancer.) The condition is pristine. NO dirt or smudges. One sticker on the bottom that says refurbished. Mine left a bit of sticky when I took it off. Nail polish remover will get it off without pain if you are worried about that.

-It will come with the new power-brick that is vented, it also has the new Jasper chip. This means: Even though you are getting a refurbished console, it is technically more sound than a brand new 20 gig from Microsoft's original batches. Rest easy my friend. This console was not made to break. It's like it got a tune up. These two features paired together will fight overheating and RED RING OF DEATH.

-It does have HD

-Mine came with 2 controllers, which at the time wasn't advertised (so it was a nice surprise). Cross your fingers about that if it's not openly included.

-If you don't already know, because it has a hard drive you will be able to connect to Xboxlive out of the box, though for online play I would recommend buying a 12 month live subscription. You can easily find them online for 35ish dollars. If you pay more you didn't look hard enough. :)

As for my console it runs like a charm, for long periods (when I say this I mean as I waste my whole day away) without any heat at all- and I can really tell the difference because I had a 60gig a few years back- the difference is black and white as far as heat output. I took it on a road-trip (to update it back home) for over 30 hours in total in a backpack that I threw around (gingerly) as I used the bag day to day. Came back home and it was still fine. DO IT. DO IT. DO IT NOW.

Refurbs are fine, too
Even though this is a refurbished unit, I haven't seen any problems with it in the first week. I am glad I bought it via Amazon where I could get a certified refurb, though, rather than taking my chances on a cheaper Ebay model or something. These units do have a bad reputation, and the warranty is just more peace of mind on my part.

WARNING
Before you buy it do a search on the "Red Ring of Death" (RRoD), Or just anything about "flashing red lights" and "xbox 360". They should put a warning in their ads or something. I got the RRoD, I know a few people who got the RRoD, and I don't really know too many people with an xbox 360. Based on that and just all the other people an internet search will show have gotten the problem, makes it seem to me like a common problem. Basically if you see those lights there's something wrong with your system and you can't play it. Sure there is a 3yr warranty to fix it, from what I understand only for the 3 red lights. Only 1yr for the 2 red lights, supposed 'overheating' fault, which I eventually got during a 10min game session and continue to get every once in a while. Even still with the warranty you have to send your system in to get it repaired or replaced with a refurbished system, which takes about a month to get resolved. It's pretty annoying paying so much for a system and not being able to play it. The problem is common enough I'm not putting any more money into their system. All I'm trying to do is warn you of something I didn't know, other than that the quality of it's games is fine. Same old same old, just flashier graphics, as expected. I'm just frustrated with Xbox and I'm going to try and not spend any more money on Xbox and save up to get a PS3. If you're looking for something new and original get a wii, other than that for graphics and more mature games get PS3. Anyways I just think people should know the risks they're taking, maybe by now the problem has been addressed with a better answer than a warranty extension, but I'm just telling you my experience.

I ordered this case and then read the review and got scared. so as soon as it came in the mail (prompt shipping by the way) i took my box and all my cables out and put it in the case. First issue i hear a lot is the power supply wont fit well i don't know what your trying to cram in there or how your trying to get it in there, but i got my 360, 2 controllers, plug and play cable, 2 extra battery packs, 2 packs extra batteries, POWER SUPPLY, LAN cable, component cable(anyone that has one knows they are not small), 5 games (with room for maybe one more if you push it), with room for 2 memory cards. I don't care who you are thats a lot of stuff. Next issue is the quality of the case. NO i would not put my stuff in there and kick it down the stairs or hit it with a car(not doubting that it would be a thousand times worse that in a soft bag or just on its own), But if i were bringing my system to a friends house or moving i would have no doubts about this case getting me there and back safe. For the $$ this is a great buy.
PS-ill try and post pictures to show all you people what does and does not fit. if i have the time ill get a video review this weekend.

Power Adapter
There is no room for the power adapter.in my case i have the 360 3 games 2 wireless controllers remote control wireless adapter av hd cables.they didnt make room for the power adapter. on the front of the case it shows original xbox cables.

Not Worth It.
The xbox case was money well spent. However, this case for the 360 is useless. The reason why is that there is no room for the powerbrick. To me the purpose of this case is to be able to protect your investment (all of it) when you are traveling with it. If you have to get something else to put the powerbrick in, then you really have defeated the purpose. Avoid this product.

Beware of Lag issues with Rock Band games
First thing's first: On 9/25/2009, an update was released to enable functionality of this microphone with all Rock Band games (thus, previous reviews mentioning that issue are now moot). I can confirm that the mic now does "work" with all Rock Band games.

However, the functionality of this microphone is utterly horrid (with the Rock Band games). In short: there is a very noticeable lag when singing into the microphone. The lag causes you to hear an echo when singing in game and causes your timing and pitch to go out of whack - making it near impossible to play songs on harder skill levels. In order to confirm that there was definitely an un-fixable issue with the wireless microphone, I did a little test and played a specific song on both the stock/corded and wireless microphones (both multiple times). Each time, I got double (sometimes triple) the score with the stock/corded microphone. It appears that the lag introduced by the wireless microphone is throwing off the timing, and it may have an issue with the pitch as well (however, I can't confirm the latter).

Let me stop for a second and state that I have exhausted all avenues of trying to correct this problem. I've tried calibrating the audio/video lag in the Rock Band settings, and I've tried switching audio sources (from TV to receiver). This lag issue is a result of a poor wireless connection between the microphone and the game console - meaning that no in-game setting can fix the issue. It should also be noted that numerous users on the Rock Band forums are complaining about this very same issue with both the wireless microphone and the "Lips" microphones.

Is this something that can be corrected through a future update? doubtful. First of all, the issue is likely hardware related. If there is just a laggy connection between the microphone and the xbox, then no software can fix that. Further, it took about 8 months since introduction for Rock Band to issue this update (on 9/25) so I highly doubt that their development team is going to jump to fix this particular issue. Plus, the microphone still "functions" - it's just a much worse experience than using the corded microphone.

So in conclusion, I absolutely recommend against purchasing this microphone. At $50, you're paying a lot of money to remove the wire from your existing microphone. If the thing doesn't work just as well as your corded mic, it's certainly not worth $50. Also, if you're really into getting high scores through the vocal sections, you will encounter nothing but frustration with the timing issues. Personally, I rarely even sing and I couldn't deal with the lag and the echo, so I know that it'll really irritate the hard core singers.

If you absolutely must go "all wireless" with your Rock Band setup, I'd advise you to wait and see if Rock Band officially announces a fix. If not, make sure you have an easy means to return the mic in the event that the lag affects you.

Good mic that could have been Great.....
The wireless 360 LIPS microhpone mics are extremely well made. Alot fancier then the standard USB microphones used in Guitar Hero, Rock Band or Karaoke Revolution games. They sound better as well. Less distortion then the USB mics. The mics are comfortable and have flashing lights to give them a little bit of flare. Thats personal taste. But I thought it was nice.

So why are these mics good and not great...well they have flaws. The system of turning the mic on and off is honestly rediculous and confusing. The system of connecting your mic with the xbox 360 is equally rediculous and confusing. They use LED light indicators to show when a mic is on or off, when the batteries are running low. Things of that nature. But I'll be darned if I could totally figure it out. They did it this way to avoid putting buttons on the Mic. I can understand that...but it makes it a royal pain to get it up and started.

The next flaw is of course game compatibility. Most games that this works with, it works with perfectly. LIPS of course, flawless. The Beatles Rock Band, flawless. Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero almost flawless, however sometimes they have trouble recognizing the mic. You may have to go into the options and make sure the mic has been selected or it won't work. Not hard but it sometimes happens. Then we come to Rock Band 2....ok...heres the thing. They added the online patch for Rock Band 2, as reviewers have noted, you need that patch. If you can't connect to Xbox Live to update. You won't be able to play these on Rock Band 2 right out the box. The next thing is...the lag...the lag is not necessarily as bad as I thought it would be. In fact it doesn't really sound as much like a lag, more like a background echo. It depends on what type of person you are...I can tolerate it. But if your a perfectionist. It could be annoying. You can try some fixes, lowering your mic volume will reduce the echo. You'll barely be able to hear yourself. But you should still perform well on the game.

Overall I found the mic worth it. But I enjoy LIPS alot...which is what its made for. If you want to buy this just for Rock Band 2 for an all wireless setup. Wait awhile. Because its not perfect. If you want to buy this for several music based games however. I saw go for it. Its a good mic, but it does have flaws which prevent it from being great.

Working Great but not with Rock Band 1 or 2 yet...
I actually love this Mic and if it weren't for some key features I would of returned since it currently has not been patched to work in Rock Band 1 or 2. Hopefully by the time the Beatles Rock Band comes out this will be working.

Pros:

Battery Life lasted about 3 weeks and has a sleep mode when not being used.
Material is nice to feel and it's pretty durable.
Wireless works fine and it's range is a lot more then I ever needed.
Looks great with the lights but they only really come into play with the game "Lips" by Microsoft.
A lot better then the standard Mics that ship with most Rhythm games.
Has a motion sensor in it which some games take advantage of.

Cons:

A little tricky to sync at first but after that I never had a problem.
Does not work with Rock Band yet. (apparently this shouldn't be an issue by mid-late September.)
The top of the microphone twists off so you can put in the batteries. It locks in but always feels loose.
The base is little thick. If you use a Mic stand make sure you have a Microphone clamp to hold it.

Happy with my purchase overall but I really want to test this thing out in Rock Band.

Not worth the headaches...
I got this thinking it would be a great deal, WRONG!!! I returned the first one because one of the batteries would only hold a 5 minute charge, the other battery wouldn't allow my wireless controller to connect to the 360. When I received the second one I had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. It's not the brand, in fact I went to Walmart and got the batteries and charger, Nyko, and did a quick comaprison before shipping back the second defective one. The batteries and chraging base in this Pro Pack are cheaply made knock-offs. There is a serious difference in weight between the actual Nyko batteries and these. Also, all of the seriel numbers are taken off of the Pro Pack components.

Although Amazon made the initial exchange and final refund quick and painless, I'd save yourself the time and frustration and just go pick them up at a retail store. To Amazon's credit this is the first time I've ordered anything from Amazon (not third party) that I felt was cheaply made.

Simple and effective
360 is in the basement, router is on the 2nd floor. My main reason for upgrading was because while watching streaming netflix movies, it would stop and downgrade the quality to keep up with the streaming movie. This doesn't happen on my pc or when I moved the 360 one floor closer to the router.

The package comes with an instruction manual, installation cd and the adapter. The CD sleeve tells you to put it in first before connecting the adapter. I put it into my 360 and it just stared at me. Probably because I had already downloaded the latest 360 update through Live. The instructions were not clear on this but I feel it is for people that have never updated their 360 and need the WPA2 configuration installed to run wireless n. To clarify, to use wireless N you must use WPA or WPA2. You cannot use WEP encryption. If you do not change it on your router configuration, this adapter will run in ABG only. NOT N. You must also have a wireless N compatible router to run at wireless n speeds (duh).

I already had the older MS ABG adapter wirelessly connected to my 360 and linked to my router, so I just shut it down, unplugged the usb cable and plugged this one in instead. Rebooted and ran "test connection" and it kept the old configuration memory of the connection settings (MAC and ip addresses, passwords, WPA2, etc), except it connected full "4 bars" strong and stated the connection type was n instead of g. I checked this on the router as well through my pc. Connection speeds had varied from 28 to 54 mb/s but now jumped to 52 to 108 mb/s. Tested the unit thoroughly with MW2. No hiccups in voice or connection problems with server during multiplayer or spec ops. Also tested netflix streaming. No problems here either. Watched a full movie with no recalibration/interuption. This has never happened before even on a good day.

The adapter comes with little fold out feet on the bottom so you can stand it remotely if you buy a usb extension cable. Very handy feature if your 360 is buried in an entertainment rack.

Offnote complaint: Router is DLink DGL4500 GamerLounge ABGN, non-firmware updated (which has been known to cause problems). People have complained that this router is not simultaneous dual band. I was on xbox live playing a game in wireless n and using my iphone (wireless g only) to look up info on the net at the same time. I believe the "simultaneous" complaint refers to wireless n devices not being able to see wireless g devices on the same server. Does not affect my configuration.

Conclusion:
Does everyone need this? No. But if you don't want or can't run cable through your house and want the fastest connection speed possible, this is a great trouble free solution. When choosing between the older version and the newer one, the price differences between the two MS supplied adapters is minimal enough that this should be your purchase choice unless you NEVER plan to upgrade past g or your 360 is pretty much in line of site of your router.

I do not work for MS, own a PS3, have red ringed my 360, and still recommend this product.

Pro's: speed, pain free installation, speed, remotely locatable, speed, 2 antennae, did I mention speed???
Con's: clamshell packing, price, vague installation instructions, fragile antennae only pivot left/right, not forward/back or rotateable, same with old one. But since it can be located remotely, not really an issue.

I was able to tell the difference in speed immediately, even when testing the Xbox Live connection in the network settings. Gone are the issues with streaming, and Netflix looks amazing in high definition. And most importantly, I am gaming multi-player lag free!

Things to consider: If you use wireless controllers with your system, you may get better performance using the 5-GHz band for your network connection, since the wireless controllers operate in the 2.4-GHz band. This also holds true with other common household devices such as cordless telephones and microwave ovens. Also, your 802.11n network only operates as fast as your slowest connected device. Therefore, if you want best performance it is suggested to switch to 5-GHz 802.11n only when gaming. Or, better, have a dual-band router dedicating feeds to the appropriate devices.

Works well if you have your router set right
I was getting ready to ship this adapter back after two days of tinkering with my network to get it to work with no results. My old Xbox wireless-g adapter worked fine, albeit with marginal connectivity and speed. I upgraded to this wireless-n adapter to solve those problems but found that it worked so poorly that I barely had a connection and couldn't use media center at all.

I spent two days tweaking everything I could think of on my network and then, as a last resort, I just switched my router (Linksys WRT330N) to operate in the 20MHz band instead of the 40, where I had it set previously. That was all it took, and now it works great with a strong signal. So, if the adapter doesn't work for you, make sure your router isn't set for wide-40MHz channel.

Expensive, but worth it
Yes, I would have to agree with other reviewers here, this item is on the expensive side. But I believe it is worth the price because Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter is easy to install and easy to set up. In short, it works and I don't mind paying extra for something that works as intended with no hassels.

To install, you simply insert the USB plug into the USB port on the backside of the Xbox 360. This Network adapter snaps into place so it never moves and the cable is just long enough preventing clutter. A very intelligent design.

Software set up was a breeze. In my situation, it was automatic after a few menu selections. I did have a concern that there would be a problem because I am using an Apple Airport. But, no problems at all.

Also, the range I receive is better than what others have mentioned here. I live in a two story house. My Airport (wireless hub) is located on the east side of the second floor, in a book case next to the outer wall. My Xbox 360 is located in an outer corner of the den on the first floor on the west side of the house. Basically, the signal is going from upstairs to downstairs and from one side of the house to the other. I was actually surprised that it worked without me having to rearrange either room.

So, yes it is expensive, but it works without any problems for me. So many things I buy make you almost jump thru hoops to get them to simply do what they are suppose to.

Easier than many alternatives
I was using a basic Linksys wireless game adapter with my 360, and it worked fine. However, it needed to be connected to a PC for firmware updates (making it impossible for Mac users), and was generally more difficult to set up than the "official" adapter from Microsoft.

I ended up getting this adapter on sale, and setting it up was a snap. It gets decent throughput, and saves some energy over an external adapter, because it only uses power when you have the Xbox 360 on. It was also nice to see that this supports WPA networks.

If your time is valuable to you, this is probably worth the extra few dollars over similar products. You just snap it on, enter your network's password, and you're off.

Wireless is the way to go
My television is in a completely different part of my house from my high speed internet connection, so while I wasn't thrilled to dish out extra money for this adapter, I have to say it was completely worth it. Since I figured out how to set up my home wireless network and coordinate that with the 360, I get a very strong connection and have had no problems staying connected.

The only issue I had was that when I first set up the adapter I didn't known enough about wireless networks to have everything clicking together. At first the 360 would access Xbox Live, but was using other nearby wireless networks because I did not give the 360 the password ID to access my Linksys router. I live in center city Philadelphia, and by default the adapter was picking up and using whatever open wireless networks were available. The range must be good, because it would register about six or seven other networks of varying strengths.

Once I figured out that my Linksys router had a password code (I think it is a WEP number) I was able to punch the router's ID into the 360 and the 360 then automatically connected to the secure wireless router in my home. I have never had a single issue since. I don't think this delay in the optimal setup was anyone's fault but my own, since I was pretty ignorant of how wireless networks are set up but I have a feeling it may happen to others.

All in all, I think that having a secure wireless network at home is what will become standard in the next few years. This adapter works great, is small and disappears behind the console, reduces the clutter of wires, and allows you to keep your computer and high speed connection separate and distinct from your television area. It was definitely a worthy purchase.
